Mission

TechPRO is a student-driven club aiming to bring awareness of alternative career tracks to graduate students within the Georgia Tech community. This mission stems from the observation that most graduate career opportunities are skewed either toward industry positions or academic tracks. However, there are many opportunities for advanced degree holders in STEM disciplines (such as government and start-ups) that do not fall into this dichotemy. In fact, the analytical and technical communication skills possessed by these students make them uniquely suited to solve a wide array of problems that are not confined to technical research.

We seek to bring these opportunities into focus by focusing on four broad career tracks: government, start-ups, intellectual property law firms, and NGO's (non-government organizations). We have two means to accomplish this. First, we seek and place students in "externships" at organizations in these target career tracks which last several months; these are designed to allow enrollees to experience the organization's culture while working on a meaningful deliverable. Second, we plan and host workshops with representatives and recruiters from these four tracks, and these serve as networking and learning opportunities for attendees.
